Student Category Definitions

This webpage identifies the various data categories found within Jayhawk GPS. These categories can be searched through the Advanced Search tool or viewed on a student’s Overview tab.

Please note, categories are updated based on a program/plan, student groups, and other specific field information. This information comes from the student information system (SIS), otherwise known as Enroll & Pay, at various times throughout the semester depending on the purpose. For example, the Frosh and Transfer cohort categories are generated by Analytics, Institutional Research, & Effectiveness (AIRE) after 20th Day each term. Student groups are often maintained by units and departments and are based on the purpose of the particular student group. Schedules for updating the student group and advisor assignment information varies.  For those maintaining student groups within your unit or departments, the best practice is to have the information updated prior to 20th Day.  Advisor assignments should be maintained as frequently as possible.
